BREATHTAKING RELAXATION
As you sit on the cottage’s veranda 3,500 feet from sea level, with the occasional low-level cloud at your fingertips, you will look out from Elements Upcountry over the isthmus of Maui and the beautifully sculpted West Maui Mountains. In the other direction lays sleepy Heleakala, its summit covered in gentle clouds and rolling green hills sculpted thousands of years ago by lava flows. As the day moves on past the islands of Kahoolawe, Molokini, and Lanai, enjoy breathtaking sunsets every night as you look to the west from the veranda that encircles the cottage. Wake up in the morning to the sounds of songbirds and the smell of fresh flowers.
COMFORTABLE – DAY OR NIGHT
Because of its elevation (3,500 feet above sea level), the cottage experiences ideal weather conditions. During the afternoons, clouds that break upon Haleakala drift whimsically overhead, providing a break from direct sunlight without creating too much shade. Though it stays relatively hot near the shoreline, you can rely on comfortable temperatures in the cottage’s serene upcountry setting. Evenings are cool and temperate, perfect for sleeping under a duvet or basking in a hot tub.
STUNNING VIEWS & MODERN CONVENIENCES
Elements Upcountry is designed to maximize the stunning views that nature has afforded its location, while maintaining an interior feel of comfortable luxury. The living area, dining area (with seating for six), and kitchen blend together, flowing towards the spacious veranda, inviting the indoors out. Wrapping around three sides of the cottage, the veranda affords access to the hot tub as well as chaise lounges, rocking chairs, and a table for outdoor dining.
The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with the finest cookware and stainless steel appliances, bringing out the chef in every guest. A four top gas range, spacious solid-surface countertops, convection oven, espresso maker, mixer, blender, and side-by-side refrigerator with icemaker are all placed purposefully to facilitate the making of a rewarding meal. A dishwasher and garbage disposal make it that much easier to clean up.
The living area is adorned with a stylish comfortable leather couch and two chairs which allow for external views. Enjoy the warmth from the wood-burning stove while enjoying a film on the home theater system. For those who wish to keep in touch with the world, there is a fax machine, separate phone line, and a printer with a scanner, copier, and photo-printer.
THE PRIVATE HELIPORT
If you truly wish to spoil yourself, have yourself picked up from the airport and arrive at Elements Upcountry via helicopter. Use the heliport as a base from which to explore Maui or other islands – visit exotic Hana or fly to Lanai to shop or play golf.
NATURE & CULTURE
Elements Upcountry combines the peace inherent in pastoral country living with many of Maui’s best activities, restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques.
Maui’s world famous beaches are not far – just a 20 minute drive from the cottage will get you to the Northshore beaches of Baldwin and Hookipa, Paia Bay, Tavares Bay, Mama’s Cove, and many other ocean access spots. It is a slightly further distance to the balmy beaches near the resorts of Wailea, Kihei, Kaanapali, and Kapalua – 30 to 75 minutes away. Many of these beaches afford water sports such as snorkeling, surfing, boogie boarding, windsurfing, kite surfing, and others. An excellent day trip to Hana is always worth the drive around Haleakala from Upcountry.
Surrounding the cottage are rolling pastures, home to ranchers and various fruit farms. These luscious fruits are easily available from local stores in the nearby charming villages of Ulupalakua, Makawao, Paia, Haiku and Pukalani. In these villages you can find everything you need for your stay from fresh organic fruits and meats to world-class artwork by Elan Vital, Sherri Reeves and other renowned Maui artists. Travel the narrow winding road from Elements Upcountry to Grandma’s Coffee House for a brief exercise in the clear morning air, and be rewarded with an excellent cup of Kona coffee and a homemade pastry. Or take the six-mile journey to the Tedeschi Winery, where you will find an ideal picnicking spot to sample local wines.
Maui is home to some of the most unforgettable hiking experiences on the planet. From towering waterfalls to thick rainforests to bamboo forests to the almost lunar Haleakala Crater, Maui is one of the Earth’s most beautiful places – use Elements Upcountry as a base from which to explore them all.
